The selection of Boulfruich as the preferred site followed several years of detailed research on the three farms owned by Mr. and Mrs. Hall. Only the Boulfruich site meets all of the requirements necessary for the development of a full Environmental Assessment and Planning Application. As well as an average annual wind speed of 10 meters per second at hub height, the site has several other features that reinforce its suitability:
- The site has suitable vehicle access for the size of WEC proposed.
- A major sub-station is only 3 km from the site.
- The previous forestation, drainage and access improvements compliment the landscape and environmental issues of this proposal.
- It would be a compact basin development with small WECs.
- Post development use of roads, tracks and hard standing would have a high amenity value.

Project Description
The Boulfruich Wind farm comprises of 15 WECs, associated access tracks, inter-converter and grid cable connections, two hard stands for assembly and off-loading and a meter/switchgear house. A number of small borrow pits may be required.
The lifespan of the wind farm is expected to be 30-35 years with the new energy-converter technology and accordingly the planning application is for 30 years only. At the end of this period the wind farm can easily be decommissioned and the site restored, leaving no visual evidence of its existence. read more >
